ROYAL BIRTHDAY SURPRISE - Fulton County Transit Authority Ambassador Darrell Sims celebrated his 62nd birthday recently doing what he does almost every day – working at Food Giant in Mayfield. Although Darrell has often celebrated his birthday at the supermarket, the event was, well, a little more “royal.” In the midst of his workday, Keith Lowry, one of Darrell’s friends, walked into the store followed by none other than Miss Kentucky 2022 Hannah Edelen. Whenever Darrell sees his friend Keith, he always asks about Miss Kentucky. Since she was going to be in Mayfield on Darrell’s birthday, Keith had to make certain to surprise Darrell with a special visit. To say Darrell was ultra-excited about his birthday surprise is an understatement. In true Darrell fashion, he shouted, “It’s Miss Kentucky!” before rushing over to hug her. Hannah sang “Happy Birthday” to Darrell and then held a special birthday cupcake while he made a wish and blew out the candle. The duo spent quite some time visiting and posing for photos before it was time for Hannah to continue visiting schools around the Mayfield/Graves County area and for Darrell to get back to work.
